DTF Application Instructions
DTF Application Instructions
For Hot Peel Direct-to-Film (DTF) Transfers
Our DTF transfers are printed, cured, and ready to press — no weeding, no pretreatment, no hassle. Follow these steps carefully to get the best professional results every time.
What You’ll Need
Heat press ( highly recommended)T-shirt or fabric item (cotton, polyester, blend, nylon, or spandex) Teflon sheet or parchment paper
Flat, lint-free surface.
A Cricut or home iron can work for small items, but a professional heat press is strongly recommended for consistent results.
Step 1: Pre-Press Your Garment
Before applying your transfer:
Place the shirt or item on your press.
Pre-press for 5 seconds at 305°F to remove moisture and wrinkles.
This helps the adhesive bond evenly.
Step 2: Position the Transfer
Center your DTF transfer ink side down, film side up.
Make sure it’s aligned correctly — once pressed, it’s permanent.
Cover it with Teflon sheet or parchment paper.
Step 3: Press
Temperature: 305°F
Time: 15-20 seconds
Pressure: Medium to firm
Apply even pressure across the entire design. Don’t move the press during this step.
Step 4: Hot Peel
Open your press and peel the film immediately while it’s hot.
Peel slowly and smoothly from one corner at a sharp angle.
If you see any lifting, lay the film back down and repress for 3–5 seconds.
Hot Peel transfers are designed to release cleanly — no need to wait for cooling.
Step 5: Second Press (Recommended)
After peeling, cover the design again with butcher paper or parchment paper.
Press for 8-10 seconds at the same temperature.
This gives the print a softer hand and improves wash durability.
Care Instructions
Wait 24 hours before washing.
Turn the garment inside out before washing.
Wash in cold water, gentle cycle.
Do not bleach or dry clean.
Tumble dry low or hang dry for best results.
Proper care keeps your print looking fresh and vibrant for 50+ washes.
Common Application Issues
| Problem | Likely Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Film not peeling cleanly | Not enough pressure or too low temp | Repress for 5 seconds, increase pressure |
| Design looks dull | Missed second press | Repress with Teflon sheet for 5 seconds |
| Edges lifting | Surface not pre-pressed | Always pre-press to remove moisture |
| Cracks after washing | Overheated press or skipped post-press | Maintain 305°F and always second-press |
