Sublimation Application Instructions

Sublimation Application Settings

Sublimation printing gives you long-lasting, full-color results that won’t crack, peel, or fade. Follow these recommended press settings for the best transfer quality and durability.

Fabric & Material Compatibility

Sublimation works best on:

100% polyester garments (light colors only)

Poly-coated blanks such as mugs, slates, metal panels, glass, ornaments, tumblers, and more

Avoid cotton or dark fabrics — sublimation ink bonds to polyester coating, not cotton fibers.

 Standard Heat Press Settings

Material Type Temperature Time Pressure Notes
Polyester Fabric (shirts, socks, etc.) 385–400°F (196–204°C) 45–60 seconds Medium Use Teflon or parchment on top. Pre-press the garment for 5 seconds to remove moisture.
Sublimation Mug (ceramic, coated) 400°F (204°C) 180–200 seconds Medium Use a mug press or oven wrap. Allow to cool before removing paper.
Metal Panels / Aluminum 385°F (196°C) 60 seconds Medium-firm Peel hot for glossy finish.
Slates & Stone Photo Panels 400°F (204°C) 240–300 seconds Medium-firm Let cool slowly to avoid cracking.
Glass Panels 400°F (204°C) 240 seconds Medium Press with image face down on glass. Cool on flat surface.
Poly-coated MDF / Hardboard 400°F (204°C) 60–80 seconds Medium Peel immediately for best results.

Pro Tips

Mirror your artwork before printing.

Use heat-resistant tape to hold your transfer in place.

Pre-press your substrate to remove moisture and wrinkles.

Avoid ghosting: Don’t move your transfer while it’s still hot.

Cool flat to prevent warping (especially for hard substrates).

Store sublimation paper in a cool, dry place away from humidity.
